Dr. Edward Melman

Dr. Edward Melman received his B.S. with honors in biology from Stockton State College and his O.D. from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry. He has been in practice in Voorhees since 1983. Dr. Melman has a special interest in contact lenses and low vision. He is a member of the contact lens and low vision sections of the American Optometric Association. He was one of the first optometrists in the state to be licensed to treat eye disease. Dr. Melman has an interest in the effects of nutrition on the eye and was asked to be on the board of the Nutritional Optometry Institute. He has served as the President of the West Jersey Optometric Society for many years. In 2006 he was named the official team doctor for the Camden Riversharks baseball team. He is one of the first doctors in the region to work with the Nike contrast enhancing contact lenses which can offer substantial benefits to athletes trying to follow a fast moving ball. They also have uses for color deficient patients, light sensitive people, beach and boat enthusiasts and golfers.

Dr. Melman has given continuing education lectures on eye disease to other doctors and has also given talks on child vision care and low vision. His wife (a pediatrician) and three children ( 3,13 and 16 y/o) have helped stimulate his interest in children's eye care. Locally, he is a member of the Voorhees-Gibbsboro Lions Club, the Voorhees Business Association, and Congregation Ner Tamid. Personal interests include chess, folk dancing, politics, international affairs and sports.
